The Nonprofit Data Bootcamp covers a comprehensive curriculum designed to empower organizations with the knowledge and skills to leverage data effectively. The bootcamp encompasses five modules, each focusing on a different aspect of data maturity within a nonprofit context.
Module 1: What is Possible? This module focuses on the intersection of social impact and analytic methods to capture impact. Participants will learn more about the process of building a business case, understanding data and preparing for data collection, and how to leverage learnings after implementing a solution.
Module 2: How Do We Build Data Solutions? Building upon the last module, participants will dive deeper into how to answer social impact questions through analytics, identify current or potential tools to help answer these questions, and how oversight of data facilitates decision making.
Module 3: How Can You Be a Good Data Steward? Returning to data ethics and building transparent practices, this module will walk participants through the data collecting and managing data, securing sensitive data, and using data collaboratively both within your organization and in partnership with external stakeholders.
Module 4: How Do We Tell Data-Driven Stories? Continuing with collaboration in mind, this module defines an ecosystem for success: aligning data, measurement and learning, and technology solutions that move organizations from “how much” to “how better off”. Participants will move from theory to practice, learning more about pre-built versus custom solutions and how dashboards aren’t always the solution.
Module 5: How Do You Build a Data-Driven Organization? Rounding out the bootcamp, participants will understand how and when it is time to invest in becoming a more data-driven organization. This module will discuss how to build an organizational data culture, looking at talent and skills and moving beyond compliance-based reporting.
During the first three months of the education sessions, you can expect a 2 hour workshop each week with additional time each month for advising.
In the final six months of data advisory support, you can expect about 1-2 hours of advising, though this can vary based upon organizational need.
We're looking for organizations that understand the value of data driven decision making, but could use some education and assistance in putting this into practice for your own organization.
Besides that, there are two requirements:
1. Your organization must be a 501C3
2. Your organization must operate in the state of Delaware
We've found that the ideal organizations for the program are between approximately $1 million and $5 million per year in revenue with at least 10 staff members. We welcome larger and smaller organizations than this, but find organizations in this range tend to be at the right stage of maturity for this work. We evaluate organizations based upon their own merits, though. All nonprofit sectors are welcome to apply!
The sessions will be designed for leaders within your organization that have the ability and authority to design and execute strategic decisions.
The exact roles and titles for participants may vary across nonprofits.
We ask that you identify one lead person from your organization as our primary contact. This contact, should plan to be in attendance at each session and will be our partner in developing your team’s individual data strategy plan throughout this program. We encourage you to identify 1-3 additional participants to join the primary contact for the duration of the program.
Thanks to generous support from the Longwood Foundation, there is no cost to participate in the program.
