Antonio Martinez was exploring various classes at his community college, uncertain about his future career path. In early 2023, a friend introduced him to Tech Impact and the ITWorks program, sparking his newfound interest in pursuing a career in technology.. “I took it as a sign that this is something that I was definitely interested in and I just jumped right in, and it paid off tenfold.” After he completed the first 11-weeks of classroom training, Antonio was stationed at the local community partner, NV Energy, for his five-week internship, which set in motion the beginnings of his budding IT career.

Angel Williams, Director of Community Relations at NV Energy, has seen her fair share of eager, motivated, and skilled ITWorks interns come through the doors of the company that provides safe, reliable, and affordable energy to more than 1.5 million customers in the state of Nevada. “For me, stories like Antonio are a wonderful outcome of our partnership with Tech Impact and the goals that our company and foundation have in providing and funding opportunities for individuals to access career training opportunities like this”.

It's not lost on Antonio how the partnership between these two organizations changed his career trajectory. “I learned so much being exposed to all of the different subsidiaries and the various IT needs they all had. The internship gave me the chance not only to help staff members on premise, but ones remotely around the country which helped with my communication, problem-solving, and motivation to get the job done. I couldn’t have asked for a better and more fulfilling internship.”

NV Energy has participated in Tech Impact’s Las Vegas workforce programs since they launched in 2017 and have since logged over 300 volunteer hours provided by over 50 individuals. Through their support of program funding, lunch and learns, Friday sessions, internship placements, and hiring graduates, Employees of NV Energy and its Foundation have left a profound impact on both students and staff at Tech Impact. Their commitment was celebrated at the 2023 Celebration of Impact Luncheon, where NV Energy received the Community Impact award in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the programs' achievements

“We have employees who care deeply about the work that Tech Impact is leading and who are volunteering their time with the students. It’s a win/win for all of us – it’s a win for our business community, and it’s a win for those individuals that go on to have thriving experience and careers” says Williams. “You will be thrilled to see the quality of students that Tech Impact graduates from its programs. We as a community need to be here for the students - we need to provide these opportunities and pathways and to make a deeper commitment to programs like Tech Impact that help make a bigger impact across our region."
