Tech Impact’s Digital Transformation: A Strategic Website Redesign and a Game-Changing Merger

Tech Impact, a national nonprofit dedicated to leveraging technology for social good, supports hundreds of nonprofits each year with technology planning, implementation, and project execution. By 2022, the organization recognized that its web presence no longer reflected its expanding services and expertise. An outdated website—last redesigned a decade prior—had become difficult to navigate, with a growing array of programs that no longer fit within a clear, logical structure. Coupled with broken links and outdated pages, it became evident that an overhaul was necessary. “Our marketing department had changed hands three times in the last decade, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to manage a site without a clear sense of what was done when, where, and why,” said Elizabeth Levy, Director of Marketing at Tech Impact.

Finding the Right Digital Partner

After an extensive search for a digital agency, Tech Impact selected Message Agency, a longtime collaborator and former office neighbor. “We had known Marcus and his team for years, and they knew us,” said Levy. “It was reassuring to embark on a project of this size with a group that understood our structure, our values, and our priorities. We had seen the amazing work they had done with other nonprofits where they showed their ability to understand their clients’ needs, budgets, and timelines and were able to pair that with visual designs and site organization that made a big impact.”

A Website Built for Growth and Impact

Over the next 12 months, Tech Impact and Message Agency worked together to develop a completely new website structure—one that not only clarified Tech Impact’s current services but also positioned the organization for future growth. Through stakeholder interviews, internal discussions, and strategic planning, Message Agency crafted a framework that balanced Tech Impact’s vast and complex offerings with a clean, intuitive design.

“One of our biggest goals was to prioritize storytelling and impact,” Levy explained. “We serve diverse audiences—clients, supporters, prospects, and funders—so we needed a site that clearly conveyed the breadth of our work and its impact on communities.”

Message Agency introduced Impact Stories, a new feature that highlights real-world success stories across multiple pages of the site. These narratives, integrated into program and service pages, not only illustrate Tech Impact’s work in relatable ways but also inspire other nonprofits and prospective students to explore how technology can drive meaningful community change.

A Merger That Strengthens Nonprofit Support

As the collaboration deepened, it became clear that Tech Impact and Message Agency’s missions were deeply aligned. While Tech Impact had long helped nonprofits build IT capacity, it had yet to offer digital strategy and web development services—critical components of a modern nonprofit’s technology infrastructure. Meanwhile, Message Agency, a certified B-Corp specializing in digital solutions for mission-driven organizations, often worked with clients who needed broader technology support beyond web development. The merger, announced in September 2023—just four months before the launch of Tech Impact’s new website—formalized a partnership that had been two decades in the making.

Bringing Message Agency under Tech Impact’s umbrella expands both organizations’ ability to serve nonprofits holistically. Tech Impact clients now have access to industry-leading web development and digital strategy services, ensuring their websites are not only functional but also integrated with the right technology solutions to enhance efficiency and engagement. At the same time, Message Agency’s clients—many of whom sought deeper technology support beyond digital design—can now tap into Tech Impact’s expertise in IT planning, managed services, and cybersecurity.

“The experience of working with Message Agency was incredible, and now, being able to continue this work together as one organization is icing on the cake,” said Levy. “For the nonprofits we serve, this merger means they no longer have to seek separate partners for their digital and IT needs. We can now offer a full suite of technology services that align with their missions and help them maximize their impact.”

With a revitalized digital presence and an expanded range of services, Tech Impact is now positioned as a one-stop technology partner for nonprofits—helping mission-driven organizations harness the power of technology to drive meaningful change.
